How To Print Free Crossword Puzzles

After you select a free crossword puzzle topic link from one of the categories above, you will proceed to a page which shows that particular crossword along with two file icons below the puzzle. To print the puzzle, simply click one of the icon buttons. A new window or tab will appear showing that puzzle page ready to print.

The two icon buttons are two different files that you can use to print each crossword puzzle. One is a GIF and the other is a PDF. The printing procedures are different for each format. The detailed instructions below are based on using Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. Other browsers will print your puzzles but the procedures could be different.

GIF: After clicking the icon labeled "GIF", the puzzle will open in a new window or tab. To print, select "File" then "Print Preview" on the menu at the top of the page. In "Print Preview" you can select the page orientation, for example Portrait or Landscape, and you can remove the headers and footers. If you do not see these adjustments in "Print Preview", you may need to select "Page Setup" from the file menu for these adjustments. It depends on which version of Internet Explorer you are using.

If your crossword puzzle is not showing correctly on the page in "Print Preview", you may need to check the page margins which can be found in "Page Setup". For best results, set all page margins to 3/4 inches or .75. You can also adjust these margins to move the image around on the page.

PDF: After clicking the icon labeled "PDF", the puzzle will open in a new window or tab. There will be a printer icon in the top left corner. Simply click this icon to print your puzzle. A box will open allowing you to make any necessary adjustments before printing. If you encounter any errors while trying to open the file, you may need to install the free program Adobe Reader. This program can be found at adobe.com.
